Highways, roads affected by heavy rains



Heavy rains flooded several areas of the county last week, causing traffic accidents and road closures. Above is a flooded section of Highway 24 just north of Alexander. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office reported at least four accidents attributable to the rains.

The Burke County Emergency Management Agency responded to 90 patients’ calls during the week of July 23-29.
