Traffic deaths dropped during ‘Southern Shield’



According to preliminary numbers from the Georgia Department of Transportation, there were 17 traffic deaths reported in Georgia during “Operation Southern Shield.” The seven-day, multi-state speeding awareness and enforcement operation took place July 17-23 in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. State troopers from the Sylvania Post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated five traffic crashes during the month of July in Burke County. Sgt. First Class J.C. BURKE COUNTY EMA REPORT



The Burke County Emergency Management Agency responded to 119 patients’ calls during the week of July 24-30. Forty-seven of those calls were considered to be emergencies and 44 were non-emergent.
