BOE approves new alternative school plan

Ten-year-old Ragan Bailey takes a practice swing while soaking up last Saturday’s sunshine on the golf course. Bailey, who plays nearly every day, will have plenty of company on the course if she ventures out this week. Burke County’s two venues, Applewood Golf Course and the Waynesboro Country Club, typically accommodate scores of golfers during Masters Week each year.

Teen burglar charged with hotel hold-up

A teenager jailed for burglary has now been charged with holding up two pregnant clerks at a Waynesboro hotel. James Byron Martin Jr., 18, was arrested by Burke County deputies last week for the recent burglary of a home in the Deerwood subdivision. Police say once Martin was in custody, he also admitted to the September 2008 Best Western robbery. […]

EMA Chief says at least 11 homes destroyed, 4 injured

A critical injury has been confirmed following last night’s tornado. This morning, a Thomas Road man was found by neighbors in a field near his demolished mobile home.
