Sardis man dies in Richmond County Jail



A Sardis man was found dead in the Richmond County Jail. “It was an apparent suicide,” said Pat Morgan, Assistant Special Agent in charge of the Thomson GBI office. Bears on the road for second round



The Bears will play Northside-Columbus in the second round of the state AAA basketball tournament on Wednesday, March 4. Burke County must hit the road again and travel clear across the state to take on the number one seed out of Region 2.

Bears win first round of state



 Burke County High School’s boys cruised past the first round of the state AAA basketball tournament in Griffin tonight (Saturday) with a 70-31 win over Spalding County. They will play either Northside-Columbus or Peach County in the second round next Wednesday, March 4. The game location will be posted on The True Citizen website when it is determined.

Southern gentleman



Former Burke County attorney Preston B. Lewis Jr., left, was honored last week for 32 years of service. Lewis served the county from September 1, 1976 to January 31, 2009, when he retired. During the presentation, Commission Chairman Wayne Crockett, right, called Lewis a “true southern gentleman.” Lewis will continue as a judge and with his privat e practice.
