County worker dies after wreck



Burke County employee Andrew Doyle, 56, died Saturday from injuries he received when he was thrown off a tractor last week. He’d been hospitalized at MCGHealth with severe head injuries since Tuesday when the county tractor he was driving was clipped by a log truck on Highway 23. Funeral arrangements are still incomplete.

Cousins arrested for murder of teen



Two cousins have turned themselves in for the Saturday morning murder of 16-year-old Tyrone Simpson Cates Jr. of Sardis. Christopher Derik Chance, 22, of Millen, and his first cousin Raymond "Trey" Sapp, 17, of Waynesboro are being held at Burke County Jail on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Structures burn on Millhaven, Wade plantations



The state fire marshall will investigate three early morning fires on two plantations that stretch over the Burke County line. According to an EMA spokesperson, a house and hunting club on Wade Plantation went up in flames around 1:40 a.m. today (Wednesday). Babies born at Burke Medical Center will soon be wearing bracelets. The hospital authority voted last week to approve the purchase of a special security system to prevent infant abductions.
