Woman shot from passing vehicle

Burke County deputies were called to Burke Medical Center early Sunday morning, December 27 to investigate a shooting.

Eighteen year-old Danesha Jenkins of Waynesboro was seriously injured when she was shot in the back. Witnesses said she was wounded while riding as a backseat passenger in a 2014 KIA Soul driven by Joshua Roundtree. Roundtree said he was driving south on Highway 25 North near Greiner Circle when multiple shots rang out from an unidentified vehicle.

Another backseat passenger, Shondell Dishmond, said he “hit the floor” and that the victim (Jenkins) started screaming that she’d been hit.

Deputies reported that the driver, Joshua Roundtree, admitted later that his nephew, Jay Montrez Markquize Henderson, was a passenger in the front seat, and that he was probably the intended victim. Sergeant Dedric Smith of the BCSO said the case is still under investigation. The victim is still hospitalized in Augusta.
