Officers are looking for the gunman who fired five shots that struck this Pontiac Grand Prix and possibly the driver.

Deputies are looking for a Burke County man who may have been shot in the head.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, officers were summoned by residents living near Jordan’s Store off Highway 56 North.

They said a large party had ended in gunshots and a “suspicious” male with injuries had been trying to use their phones.

Deputies had no luck finding that man but believe they got his name later that morning when they received a call from the distressed owners of a Pontiac Grand Prix.

According to Sgt. Dan Lowe, an investigator for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the couple loaned their car to three party-goers and got it back that morning with a collection of bullet holes.

“The car was hit five times,” he said. “Four times in front of the driver’s side door and once on the passenger window.”

Based on the position of the bullet holes and descriptions of the injured man, investigators believe the driver, whose name has not been released, may have been hit in the back of the head.

“The word was that someone was hit … but at this point we just don’t know,” Sgt. Lowe said. “We have checked all area hospitals and (the driver) has not received any medical treatment.”

Officers have not yet located the three men in the vehicle and the car owner told officers they refused his request to give a statement for insurance purposes.

Investigators are also still trying to determine who fired the shots. Anyone with information is asked to call 706-554-2133.
