Waynesboro, Sardis post Christmas parade plans

Spectators along Liberty Street may have to look really hard this year to find their favorite floats during the annual Downtown Christmas Parade. This year’s parade, slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, is all about camouflage.

“ The theme this year is Camo Christmas,” said Downtown Development Authority Director Don Lively, who wouldn’t reveal any of what’s in store but confirmed folks are already having fun with the idea. “We try to do something different from year to year. Everybody gets tired of the same thing, and this is Burke County – who doesn’t love camo?”

Everyone’s beloved chubby elf is expected to make an appearance, as well as group favorites like the Shriners and the Burke County High School Band and Color Guard.

Participants should be at the Exchange Club fairgrounds by 11:30 a.m. on parade day and are asked to confirm their spots by Wednesday, Dec. 7, by contacting Lively at 706.554.8018 or donlively. [email protected]. Lively reminds participants that candy may only be thrown by individuals walking beside floats; goodies should not be thrown from the floats themselves.

The parade will be rescheduled for Dec. 17 if it rains.

Can’t wait another week for parade fun? The City of Sardis will hold its annual Christmas parade this Saturday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. Participants should be lined up at the pecan orchard at the end of Vestal Road by 3 p.m. Traditional floats are fine, but organizers say be creative and have fun, whether that means traveling via golf cart or fourwheeler or walking with the family pet (on a leash).
