Commissioner Lucious Abrams pushed forward the idea of a walking park in Gough during the Board of Commissioner meeting October 11.

Discussions had taken place between County Manager Merv Waldrop, Abrams and Gayle Mobley. Mobley has expressed interest in donating land adjoining the previously donated land where the Gough Park sits.

Abrams described the project as a “nice dirt trail.”

Deloris Jenkins approached the council urging them to take on the venture.

“Gough doesn’t receive anything from the County,” she said. “But like Commissioner Lucious Abrams has said, Gough citizens do pay taxes. The only thing we have for the residents of Gough is a park.”

Jenkins said the walking trail will give the residents an alternative to walking on the highway.

Only Commissioner Art Lively opposed the motion to seek the donation of the property from Mobley.
