Two unrelated incidents resulted in local residences and businesses losing power and/or electricity this past week. Friday afternoon, a log truck ran over a fire hydrant (photo above) and disconnected it from the water line well below the valve which would have cut the water flow off. Instead, water poured into the street for several hours until city workers could get it under control. Monday morning, trees fell on a power line on Fifth Street near Jones Avenue which knocked out power to several hundred locations in the city for most of the morning. Georgia Power had the damage repaired by midday.
