Trooper injured in struggle with suspected drug dealer

A suspected drug dealer spent Christmas in jail after injuring a Georgia State Trooper during a struggle.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Trooper S.R. Price stopped Alphones Whitfield, 33, on Highway 56 North last Friday for failure to maintain lane and speeding.

Whitfield, who lives in Waynesboro, told the trooper he’d smoked marijuana earlier that day, but refused to submit to a blood test, the report said.

Whitfield allegedly resisted arrest and began to struggle with Trooper Price and Trooper Chris Rodewalt.

During the struggle, Trooper Rodewalt sustained an injury to his shoulder.

When troopers searched Whitfield’s vehicle, they found 93 grams of marijuana, seven grams of cocaine and more than $2,000 cash.

Whitfield was arrested for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer, DUI (marijuana), speeding and failure to maintain lane.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he was still in custody at the Burke County Jail.
