Jon Jon’s Turtle Soup, a children’s book published August 23, is named after a former Edmund Burke Academy student.

Dawn Evans lived in Waynesboro for 15 years. She worked as a paraprofessional for Burke County Public Schools until 2011. Her son Jon graduated from EBA in 2012.

The book chronicles Jon Jon’s fishing adventure. The animals tell their stories, convincing him to throw them back into the water.

“I wrote it eight years ago but I kept revising it and revising it,” Evans said. “Everyone kept saying you could publish it.”

The book is illustrated by Toby Mikle. It is available on Amazon and a copy will be donated to the Burke County Public Library.

“It just kind of catches you,” Evans said of the story and mentioned she intends to publish a second book featuring Jon Jon early next year.
