After five years of active participation in the official United States Air Force auxillary program, Civil Air Patrol, Ian Stembridge achieved the prestigious Amelia Earhart Award and the rank of Cadet Captain.

The Amelia Earhart Award honors the late Amelia Earhart, aviatrix, advocate and pioneer, who set many records for women aviators in aviation’s infancy, and who was lost while attempting to be the first woman to circumnavigate the globe. This award is the third milestone in the cadet program and marks the completion of Phase III, the Command Phase.

To earn the Amelia Earhart Award and the grade of Cadet Captain, a cadet must complete the promotion eligibility requirements. This cadet has passed two comprehensive exams covering leadership theory and aerospace topics, written a Staff Duty Analysis, completed the Cadet Physical Fitness Test, served as a staff member and met specific leadership expectations. Only 5 percent of Civil Air Patrol cadets will work and ultimately obtain the Amelia Earhart Award.
