Spooky Story Contest deadline approaching

One week remains for local students to scare us into winning free pizza.

Our annual Spooky Story Contest is underway, but the deadline is peeking around the corner for writers to get their entries in.

The contest is open to fourthand fifth-graders who are enrolled in any public or private school in Burke County. We want to hear your most terrifying tales, and the winner will be rewarded with a pizza party for his or her entire class, compliments of Papa’s Pizza To Go.

We are looking for something scary, but also stories with solid plots and twists – a unique piece we haven’t seen in a book or movie. Entries must be typed or neatly written and should be 500 words or less. They must also include the student’s first and last name, school, grade and teacher’s first and last name. Stories that do not include all the information will be disqualified from the contest.

Submissions must be received by noon next Wednesday, Oct. 17, either via email at [email protected] or dropped off at our office, located at 629 Shadrack St. in Waynesboro. If submitting through email, please do not send stories in PDF files; we prefer a Word document.

Finalists’ stories will be printed in the Halloween edition of The True Citizen on Oct. 31, and readers will be able to vote for their favorites online at thetruecitizen.com through 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The winner will be announced in the Nov. 7 edition.
