Have you ever wondered what the rules or requirements are for business faxes? We get unsolicited faxes all the time … especially from businesses that we have never heard of before.

According to the Georgia Press Bulletin the following are business fax requirements:

• Faxes are illegal if they are advertising faxes and are sent to recipients without express consent or an established business relationship. An advertising fax might be something as simple as a letter with a promotional logo.

• Established business relationship remains undefined, but a business that has sold or purchased goods or services from a fax machine owner, or who has had an inquiry from a customer or potential customer, clearly has an established business relationship.

• Fax senders must now provide – preferably on the cover or first page – a clear and cost-free mechanism for recipients to request to receive no more faxes and senders must comply with those requests.

• Fax senders should know how the fax numbers in their files were obtained.

• The new law does not pre-empt state laws. If a state law defines an established business relationship or the nature of an unsolicited fax advertisement more narrowly than the FCC, the state law must be followed. (Source: National Newspaper Association)

I would complain about all of our unsolicited faxes, but no one around my office has time to write to them and fax back, so we just continue to throw them in the trash.

My granddaughters, Alanha and Tiffany, were lying on the ground around dusk playing a "duh" game to our-dumb each other.

One asked the other, "Which is farther? … The moon or Florida? The other replied, "You can’t see Florida!"

I received an email from Sherrell Gay updating me about Earl Saxon’s condition. If you do not know Earl, he was former pastor of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church.

She asked me to spread the word to place Earl on your prayer list for he is a sick man.

He has been in the University Hospital since July 16. He now has a staph infection in his blood, possible heart problems and back problems with hematomas near his disks. Following the draining of infection in the back he developed staph in his eyes.

Last Friday he underwent back surgery and had three disks removed and clean up work to get rid of the infection. He is still in intensive care. His wife, Judy, says he is stable but has a long road to recovery.

I know he and his family would like to hear from you. Their home address is 6452 Story Mill Rd., Keysville GA 30816.
