Registration ends Oct. 6

Absentee voting begins Monday

Time is running out to register for the Nov. 4 General Election.

Prospective voters have until Oct. 6 to file their paperwork.

Locally, registration is offered at the Burke County Court House, Burke County Library, Department of Family and Children Services, Augusta Technical College, area schools or on the secretary of state’s Web site, www.sos.georgia.gov.

While prospective voters are registering, registered voters will begin voting via absentee ballots.

Absentee voting begins Monday, Sept. 22, and will continue through Friday, Oct. 31.

While anyone can vote absentee by mail, those who want to vote absentee in person must provide a legal excuse such as being away from the polls on Election Day or being 75 or older.

Applications are available at the courthouse or at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections.

Throughout the last week of October, all voters may cast advance ballots as a matter of convenience.
