There’s a new name on the sign in front of a Waynesboro funeral home.

Val Prescott has become a full partner, creating Joiner-Anderson Saxon-Prescott Funeral Home and Crematory.

Prescott has served as funeral director for the East Sixth Street business since it first opened its doors here in October 2009. Previously his involvement was through a limited partnership, but he recently opted to become an equal partner. He joins Earl and Judy Saxon along with Tracy Joiner and Mark Anderson, who also own Joiner- Anderson funeral homes in Statesboro and Sylvania.

Prescott graduated from Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science in 1983 and spent 20 years as general manager of Fox and Weeks Funeral Services in Savannah before returning to his native Burke County.

“It’s a slower pace here and it’s nice to be able to get involved with the community,” he said, noting he’s enjoyed being “home.”

Prescott, who lives in Sardis, is actively involved in the Waynesboro Exchange Club as well as the Waynesboro Rotary Club, where he took the reins as president last week.
