Police want the public’s help identifying a man who put a gun to a Sonic employee’s back and robbed the restaurant early Friday morning.
According to Waynesboro Police investigator Claude Wade, the masked man sneaked into the South Liberty Street kitchen just before opening and hid behind a filing cabinet while two employees did prep work nearby.
After several minutes, he stepped out, pushed a handgun to the back of one woman and forced them both into a backroom.
After taking the day’s startup cash, he fled on foot.
According to investigator Wade, the robber was a black man wearing a white cloth mask, possibly fashioned from a T-shirt.
He also wore a dark, hooded sweatshirt and orange gloves.
Investigators are analyzing video footage recorded by the restaurant’s security camera.
Police Chief Karl E. Allen says his department is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robber.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 706-554-8029.
