Mrs. Nell Daniel Byne





 

 

Nell Daniel Byne, wife of the late Edmund Gordon Byne, went home to be with her Saviour Jesus Christ, Thursday,

March 26, 2009, at her residence in Waynesboro. A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro at 5 p.m. Saturday,

March 28, with J. Miller Byne III, William G. Gustafson, James Gay and Garry Morgan officiating.

Private graveside services for the family were held one hour prior to the service at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family received friends at their home, 535 Jones Ave., from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 27.

Born Feb. 24, 1920, Mrs. Byne, was a native of Richmond County and the daughter of the late Raleigh Hightower and Nell Nolan Daniel.

An accomplished artist in oils and china painting, Mrs. Byne was well known for mission work in leading others to Christ. She was always interested in young women becoming followers of the Almighty. For many, many years, up until January of 2009, she was host for a Wednesday morning Bible study in her home for women. Also, called on by many for being a prayer warrior, Mrs. Byne’s home was always open to traveling missionaries and ministers. Her family members were known for their Christian hospitality.

She and her husband attended Burkehaven Chapel and were among the founding families of the non-denominational church.

Mrs. Byne participated in the founding of Burke Academy and Burkehaven Christian School.

She was a graduate of Tubman High School and received her degree in history from Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. She married Edmund Gordon Byne in Augusta, Ga., on July 15, 1948.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Daniel Wiggins and Clayton Daniel Jordan.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Edmund G. Byne and Barbara McGlothlin Byne and Richard Heggie Byne and Linda Lawrence Byne, all of Waynesboro; a daughter and her husband, Marynell Byne Parker and Terry Parker of North Augusta, S.C.; a brother, Thomas Richard Daniel of Augusta; a sister, Ann Daniel McKnight of Augusta; grandchildren, Katherine Byne DeLaigle (Brad) of Waynesboro, Edmund Gordon Byne III (Kim) of Duluth, Ga., Mary Elizabeth Kimbrough of Ashland, Ky., Emily Lane Kimbrough of Charleston, S.C., Nathaniel Boykin Kimbrough of Buffalo, N.Y., Helen Diane Byne, Rebecca Jane Byne, Lawrence AnnNell Byne and Lynn Marian Byne, all of Waynesboro.

Pallbearers were her nephews. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Nell Byne Bible Class.
