Margie Janette James McCollum

Margie Janette James McCollum, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 6, 2023. Margie was born on Sept. 28, 1938, in Jesup, GA. A loving and dedicated wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, Margie was deeply devoted to spending time with her family, creating community amongst her friends and neighbors, and actively serving in her church.

Wed in 1955 at age 17 to Cecil Edward McCollum Sr. after a whirlwind, months-long romance, they were married for nearly 54 years before Cecil’s passing in 2009. They were inseparable, living in places around the globe and across the country during Cecil’s U.S.

Army career, then settling in McBean, GA, a place they have called home since 1969. Upon retirement, Margie and Cecil were avid travelers, seeing every state in the U.S. in their RV and many other places via cruise ships.

In addition to the many church programs Margie was involved with at Piney Grove Baptist and previous churches, she was a longtime member of the Alice Warren Chapter #483 Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Riders Post 178, American Legion Auxiliary 178, National Camping Travelers, Inc., and Patriot Guard Riders. Maker of what her family considers the best biscuits, she enjoyed crochet and crafting, and was the finest canasta partner this side of the Mississippi. She never met a stranger and could converse easily with just about anyone. Affectionately known as Ms. Daisy to riding buddies, Margie enjoyed rides out on the Harley with her son, Cecil “Iceman” Edward McCollum Jr. and snuggling her fur babies, Socks and Shoes.

In addition to her husband, Margie is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby James; father, Charlie James; brother, Lindy James; and sister, Gloria James Aldridge.

She is survived by sons Cecil Edward McCollum Jr., Augusta; Reverend James Randall (Randy) McCollum and his wife, Theda, Newport News, VA; daughter, Leslie McCollum Mobley and her husband Jeff Mobley, Snellville, GA; sister Debbie Tyre and her husband Hershel Tyre, Jesup, GA; grandchildren Heather Wiederholt, and husband Paul; Hunter McCollum and wife Gabrielle; and Hannah Elise Mobley; and great-grandchildren Anna Wiederholt, Jack Wiederholt, Eden McCollum and Elise McCollum.
