The Lady Bears recorded their largest margin of victory so far this season in a region win over West Laurens. Burke County High School’s girls (6-10) took down the Lady Raiders 65-51 last Friday in Dublin.
Antornia Walker scored nearly half of Burke County’s total score, recording 32 points in the game, a feat considering she sat out about 9 minutes in the second and fourth quarters. Alexus Gordon was also in double digits with 10 points. Dominique Jenkins, Eddriss Miles and Tre’linda Little all added 7 points each.
The Lady Bears leveled a steady attack on the Lady Raiders and outscored them every quarter. At the half, Burke County was up 29- 22 and went on to stretch their lead.
“As far as a team effort, that has been our best performance,” head coach Angelica Collins said. “I’m excited, and I was extremely proud of this effort. I told them we just have to build on this.”
The Lady Bears will get a big test this weekend in region games against Baldwin and Richmond Hill, both of which gave Burke County’s girls a tough time earlier in the season.
