The Lady Bears are focused on their own run at a state playoff appearance. They split two games this past week, winning one and losing the other.
The Lady Bears played an away rematch with East Laurens this past Friday night. In the first game the Lady Bears lost 41-58. In Friday’s closely contested rematch, the Lady Bears were defeated 41-43. The Lady Bears were led in the contest by Tre’yonna Jones with seventeen points and Dy’mon Webb with ten points.
On Saturday night the Lady Bears traveled to Jefferson County. The Lady Bears were focused defensively as they led 15-0 after the first period. The Lady Warriors came to life during the second period. At halftime, Burke County was up. Entering the third period, the Lady Bears regrouped to take a 33-13 lead. They held this lead the rest of the game, sealing a 54-27 victory. The Lady Bears had a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring double-digit figures. Tre’yonna Jones led with fifteen points, followed by Dy’mon Webb with thirteen, Destiny Odom with eleven points, and Deondra Page with ten points.
Speaking with head coach Leslie Lawrence, she had this to say about the season thus far: “we have to clean up our passing and shooting percentages.” She continued by saying that would be a heavy focus in this week’s practices. “We have to be disciplined in games in order to reach our goals,” she concluded.
The girls’ next game is on December 16 against a very talented North Augusta team. This is the last home game of 2022 for the girls, and fans need to pack out the house and cheer them on against their daunting opponent.
