Hospital transitions to “Burke Health”

A mobile cardiac catheterization lab made its way from Indiana, down Liberty Street, and to the Burke Medical Center over the weekend, marking the first of several advancements to come over the next few months.

Once complete, the cath lab will enable cardiologists to perform minimally invasive tests and advanced cardiac procedures to diagnose and treat cardiac disease. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology that can view arteries and check blood flow to and from the heart. Services will be available to patients in the spring. Several cardiologists will begin performing procedures in the lab later this spring and plans are in place to allow patients access to the procedures through the emergency department.

The temporary unit is phase one of a long-term plan to build a permanent cardiology unit onto the hospital in the coming years as the cardiology program expands.

Over the next month, Burke Medical Center will begin to transition into its new name, Burke Health, as the facility strives to become a center of excellence in orthopedic and cardiovascular care.
