Hospital expands to meet caseload demands

After months of construction, Burke Health has converted the former labor and delivery ward into a third operating room.

Adding the facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, enables surgeons to perform advanced orthopedic procedures and allows for an increase in the number of surgical procedures. Since Burke Hospital Company took over in June 2021, Burke Health reports more than 500 procedures have been completed. The hospital stopped offering labor and delivery services in December 2012.

“While the additional space has helped the hospital expand its caseload, the need for more space is still an issue Burke Health faces,” a recent press release stated. “To resolve this issue, the hospital is increasing the square footage of the existing building, and construction is underway to add a fourth operating room between the emergency room and the mobile MRI unit at the rear of the facility.”
