The Edmund Burke Academy Spartans fell behind early and trailed by single digits most of the game Friday, January 13 before defeating Brentwood at Murray Gymnasium 39-35.
“Our girls were steady all night with our defense,” said Head Coach Daniel Hannah. “I thought we did a great job in our half court defense especially in the second half.”
Zaylie Baker and Leila Eastmead displayed great effort in pressuring their ballhandlers, while Ellee Mobley put much effort into rebounding and containing Brentwood’s post players from scoring. Baker brought 16 points to the winning table. Eastmead completed 13. Beating the number one team in the state is a big boost for the lady Spartans both in our confidence and in the rankings moving forward.
“If we can continue to improve and rebound better going forward, our girls have a chance to be very competitive,” Hannah said.
