EBA golf season is officially underway, and the Spartans have one thing on their minds, a state championship. After three consecutive years of finishing as state runner-up, they hope this is the year they will bring the championship trophy back to EBA.
“I really think we have a great opportunity to finish the year off with a state championship,” said Coach Mike Smith. “We have a great group of talented golfers. This will be the fourth year for my only senior, Ben Murray, and he has the talent to really be a big part of this push for the state title. The Mobley cousins, Carter and Jay, give us a great one-two punch and a lot of experience in tournament golf. Michael Quick and Ragan Bailey are willing to work hard and can help make this the year for the Spartans.”
The Spartans began their season last Monday when they traveled to Jekyll Island to play in the Frederica Invitational where they finished fourth out of fourteen teams. Jay Mobley led the Spartans finishing with a two under par 70. Michael Quick started the season strong with a 79. Carter Mobley and Ragan Bailey shot 84 and 87, respectively, to give the Spartans a team score of 320.
The Spartans have their first home match of the season tomorrow (Thursday).
