Dan F. Wilson, Jr.



Dan F. Wilson Jr, 85, died Sunday September 30, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 17, 1933, in Augusta, he was the son of the late Dan F. Wilson and Blanche Wade Wilson. He grew up in Waynesboro, Ga. and then attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro.

After 2 years in the US Army (Hawaii), he took a high school teaching position on the US military base in Heilbronn, Germany. Dan then moved back to Atlanta as a science/chemistry teacher at Murphy High School and to meet his future wife Anne. After several years he moved into banking where he spent the bulk of his career.

Eventually he would also become a Financial Aid Counselor at Georgia Tech and Georgia Perimeter College until his retirement. Dan and his family resided for 54 years on North Ivy Road in Buckhead, cherishing their many neighbors and friends. He was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club of Central Dekalb where he served as President, and the Atlanta Chapter of the Georgia Salzburger Society where he served as Treasurer for 10 years.

Dan loved reading, international travel, classical music, ham radios, genealogy, sunrises and sunsets at Pawleys Island, SC and Folly Beach, SC.

Survivors include his wife Anne McCutchen Wilson; two sons, Dan F. Wilson III of Atlanta, and James M. Wilson and wife Candi of Macon, GA; grandson, James Newton Wilson, and granddaughter Laura McCutchen Wilson both of Macon, GA, brother Jack Wade Wilson and wife Dianne of Augusta, GA. His sister Sarah Helen Wilson of Waynesboro precedes him in death.

The family wants to thank Mrs. Josephine Mlendough and Mrs. Lucy Ngeleshi who showed compassion and love nursing him in his final months of life, as well as to the many neighbors and longtime friends who were so supportive.

A memorial service celebrating Dan’s rich life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday October 13, 2018 at the Peachtree Road Lutheran Church (3686 Peachtree Road).
