Citizens asked to dial 911 in an emergency

The Burke County E911 has been physically consolidated for 10 months in April and seven months consolidated with the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system, reported Director Laycee Silas to the Board of Commissioners.

During that time the entity answered a total of 52,565 phone calls, with 16,042 of those on a 911 line and 36,523 on the non-emergency lines.

“We are averaging 4800 to 5200 calls answered per month with approximately 2000 of those being calls for service dispatched,” Silas said.“This does not include any responder initiated calls.”

Silas encouraged the citizens and community to dial 911 if there is an emergency, rather than placing calls to the individual services that are needed.
