Burke County Bears Varsity loses lead early in defeat

Burke County Bears Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 12-8 loss to Islands on Tuesday. Islands scored on a walk by Braedin Swab in the first inning, a walk by Wyatt Oliver in the first inning, a home run by Johnny Calloway in the second inning, a single by Jackson Paul in the second inning, and a home run by Charlie Sindahi in the second inning.

Despite the loss, Burke County Bears Varsity did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Islands had 12 hits on the way to victory.

Islands took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Calloway hit a solo homer, Paul singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Sindahi homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Burke County Bears Varsity notched three runs in the sixth inning. Burke County Bears Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Aiden Roberson, Marc Owen Chancey, and Hunter Carroll, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Islands scored four runs in the third inning. The big inning for Islands came thanks to a single by Paul and a home run by Sindahi.

Calloway was on the pitcher’s mound for Islands. The bulldog lasted four and a third innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out ten.

Carroll was on the hill for Burke County Bears Varsity. Carroll went two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out one. Jayden Duncan and Nate Cadle entered the game as relief, throwing five innings and one and one-third innings respectively.

Islands smacked three home runs on the day. Sindahi had a four bagger in the second and third innings. Calloway went yard in the second inning.

Burke County Bears Varsity tallied ten hits on the day. Myles Heatwole, Brice Marchman, and Chancey each had multiple hits for Burke County Bears Varsity. Heatwole went 3-for- 3 at the plate to lead Burke County Bears Varsity in hits.

Islands saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Joey Cardillo, Sindahi, Dylan Gordon, and Paul all managed multiple hits for Islands. Cardillo led Islands with four hits in four at bats.
