Bomb threat disrupts classes

Burke County High School received a bomb threat via telephone Tuesday, May 10 at around 1:11 p.m.

“I’m blowing the school up,” the male subject stated.

Student Resource Officers on the scene were notified immediately. Additional emergency personnel and resources were called in to assist in the investigation, including the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Region 3 K9 Task Force. Students and staff safely evacuated. Parents and guardians were asked not to pick up their children.

The situation quickly deescalated and by 2:48 p.m. normal operations resumed at the high school. An extensive search was completed by law enforcement authorities and nothing was located.

“We will continue to work with BCHS throughout the remainder of the investigation.,” a BCSO press release stated. “Those found to be responsible for the disruption of our schools and the threat of harm against our community will be held accountable.”
