BCHS tennis team finishing regular season

Last Tuesday, the Burke County High School tennis teams had a region match against Southeast Bulloch. The boys lost 1-4 and the girls lost 0-5. For the boys, Elliott Corbitt (third singles) was the lone winner. According to head coach Laurie Dickey, “he hit very consistently and used great placement when it was needed.” A notable girl’s performance was that of the girls first doubles team, Madison Martin and Aaliyah Walker. They were able to rally back during the second set to force a tiebreak. While they weren’t able to win, they definitely gave their opponent a tough match. “I am proud of the way they work together on the court,” said Dickey.

On Thursday, they played against Swainsboro for the second time this year.. When they played them a few weeks ago, the girls won 3-2 and the boys lost 2-3. The boys had the same result, unfortunately, and the girls lost this time as well. Elliott Corbitt (third singles) and Ryan Morris (second singles) were both winners for the boys. Dickey said, “both of these players have been great leaders for our team. Even when we are down, they continue to always do their best. They definitely make me proud.”

In both matches this week, all players tried hard, and it just didn’t go their way. “We are getting prepared for our last region match,” said Dickey. This match will have been played yesterday against Islands. The tennis team will finish out the regular season on Thursday with a match against Faith Christian Academy. This match will also be senior night, so come out and show your support. The region tournament will take place on Tuesday, April 11 in Savannah at Bacon Park.
