BCHS Tennis continues to mow over its opponents. On March 22 they had their third region match of the year against Thomson High School. Both the girls and the boys won their matches. The girls beat Thomson 3-2 and the boys won 5-0.

The girls finished their matches 2-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles. Both Kyleigh Egan and Josalyn Roberts won their singles matches. Egan defeated Madison Hathaway in two sets while Roberts was forced into a third set for her victory. Madison Martin and Kennedy Roberts also went to a third set, but they ultimately secured a Lady Bears victory by winning their last set 6-4.

For the boys, all singles and doubles matches were victories. We continue to see strong outings from Sam Eckerman, Jacob Boothe, and Keegan Mc- Donald, Burke County’s boys’ singles players. All three were able to win at least one set 6-0, with Keegan McDonald winning both of his sets 6-0.

Additionally, the boys’ doubles teams put on quite a performance. Both Ryan Morris and Ethan Coalson and Ethan Mooneyham and Jacob Curtis won their doubles matches with two perfect 6-0 sets.

The Bears were supposed to have another match against Hephzibah last Thursday, but it was forfeited due to Hephzibah not having two match-ready teams. So what lies ahead for the Bears tennis team? While there are no stats to report just yet, the Bears had a region match yesterday against Morgan County, and they round out the season tomorrow with a home match against ARC out of Augusta. The ultimate goal of the tennis team is to make it to the region tournament. While there is no set date at the moment, the region tournament will be played on or before April 14. In the hopes of not jinxing their chances, the odds of Burke County hosting the tournament at home are high.
