Terry Barber and Shelley Keelor will perform “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber – The Best of Broadway” to kick off the Waynesboro-Burke Concert Series 2019 season. Enjoy an evening filled with the music of the most popular composer in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber, starring international countertenor opera star Terry Barber and presented by the Waynesboro- Burke Concert Series.

Standing ovations will punctuate the evening with songs like “The Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera, the gut wrenching “Gethsemane” from Jesus Chris Superstar, “Memory” from Cats and other memorable hits from shows like Evita, Sunset Boulevard, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Starlight Express.

The concert, which is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Burke County Office Park auditorium, is co-sponsored by the Burke County Woman’s Club and Leonard Hogan.

Barber’s voice has appeared on every major record label, with Grammy-winning artists like Chanticleer, Madonna, Jewel, Chaka Khan, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Smith and many more. In recent years, the focus of Barber’s career has been more than 150 international solo tour performances. In addition to “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber,” his current programs include “The Many Voices of Terry Barber – an entertaining exploration through light musical theater, classical and popular works and “Around the World in 80 Minutes” – unique arrangements by Emmy and Grammy-winning composers of the world’s favorite melodies in 10 languages.

As a member of Chanticleer, Barber was hailed “…the jewel in Chanticleer’s crown…” while performing classical, gospel, jazz and folk music in over a dozen languages at more than a 100 concerts around the globe.

Following incredible success at Moscow’s Svetlanov Hall for the international “Art- November” festival, Barber was asked to entertain at the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C. for the 20th anniversary of Tretyakov Arts Magazine. A recognized language expert, he was the only entertainer asked to sing in Russian at the Library of Congress to celebrate poet Mikhael Lermontov.

Barber, a Grammy award nominee multiple times over, will be joined by costar Shelley Keelor, who is not only an award-winning actress but a cabaret artist and international soloist, having toured with orchestras including The Istanbul State Symphony in Broadway Nights. Keelor has starred in several theatre productions around the country including Sweeney Todd, Beehive, The World Goes Round, Side By Side by Sondheim, Carrie The Musical and Beauty and the Beast, to name a few. She is a Disney Teaching Artist and private vocal coach.

Mark Phillips, a Waynesboro violinist, will also accompany the performance on selected numbers, while Garry Fulcher Jr., also of Waynesboro, will provide music prior to the show.

Doors open at 6 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available for purchase. For more information, call 706.437.0070, visit www.burkeconcert.org or see the WBCS Facebook page.

OUTREACH

In 2009, Barber founded Artist for a Cause Inc., a non-profit which helps visual and performing artists to use their talent for community improvement. His personal work with the organization includes the “A Sacred Journey” tour program as well as “Classical for Schools,” which will impact more than 10,000 students this year throughout the United States and Canada through a performance lecture, challenging their notions about what is possible with the human voice and recognizing the importance of arts education and a classical foundation within the arts.

Barber and his piano accompanist will engage students from Burke County high and middle schools, Edmund Burke Academy and Faith Christian Academy in an educational outreach on Thursday, Jan. 24.
