Netters end season in state playoffs

DIANA ROYAL

The Burke County High School Bears volleyball team finished up the season with a 3-0 loss against West Laurens in the first round of the state playoffs held at Woodward Academy in College Park.

Though the ladies did not advance, coach David Skinner said the team competed very hard and that he is very proud of their efforts. “This group of student-athletes was able to overcome and accomplish much this season,” he said. “Our captains did a phenomenal job throughout the season. Though we’re losing eight seniors this year, we’re looking to be very competitive in the near future with the underclassmen we will have.”

The team’s graduating seniors include Brikyia Benjamin, Jaylin Griffin, Reginae Hall, Qua’Neshia Hamilton, McKenzie Holmes, Gabrielle Joseph, Iyana Morgan and Antionette Savoy. The girls finished their regular season as the 2018 Area 3-AAAA Runner-Up Champions.
