City recognizes area youth

As part of his new Uplift Project, Waynesboro Mayor Greg Carswell recognized a number of local children for their dedication to extracurricular activities during city council’s meeting last week. The Dancing Dahlias and the Game Time Elite (GTE) basketball team were honored, along with their coaches. “I love seeing the kids from all over the city and county doing well and achieving goals,” Mayor Carswell said. “When I noticed these kids had been traveling in and out of town and doing well, it was remarkable. That shows the greatest leadership from coaches, parents and teachers.” Jolanda Lovett serves as director for The Dancing Dahlias, and Eric Mobley and Chad McGee coach GTE. Mayor Carswell says his goal through the project is to recognize different groups at various times throughout the year. GTE also invites the public to a basketball banquet on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 6;8:30 p.m. at the Burke County Public Library.
