Registration open for Bird Dog Breakaway

DIANA ROYAL

It’s time to get in some good exercise, and in the process, help a child in need.

Registration for the 11th annual Bird Dog Breakaway is now open. The race, which includes both a 10K and 5K run, a two-mile walk and a one-mile kids run, benefits the Center for New Beginnings and is slated for Saturday, Sept. 29, at Waynesboro City Park.

Those interested may register online now at www.birddogbreakaway.com, at the Center, located at 727 W. 6th St., Waynesboro, or between 7:15-8 a.m. on race day at the park. Early entrants can pick up packets at the Center on Sept. 28, from 2-6 p.m.

The proceeds directly go to the Center, which services more than 125 children with disabilities, helping to pay for their therapy, tutoring and counseling.

“What a blessing these funds are this time of year as we are closing out our summer programs,” said Sarah Ashe, CFNB’s director and founder. “Thank you for helping the Center help the families with special needs children.”

The Bird Dog Breakaway will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with door prizes and medals being awarded for the top three winners in each age group. Strollers are welcome, but participants are asked to keep pets at home. There will also a 50-yard Pup Trot for the youngest runners (5 years and under) and a quarter-mile Adaptive Walk for special needs children of all ages.

For more information, call the Center at 706.437.0505.
