A Statesboro man is behind bars after lifting a piece of fried chicken from Popeyes in Waynesboro.

Quantavious Carter, 24, was arrested Monday evening for theft by taking, disorderly conduct and carrying a weapon without a license.

According to Waynesboro Police Chief Augustus Palmer, employees reported that Carter entered the fast food restaurant acting a bit erratically. He placed an order, paid for his food and then jumped the counter and entered the kitchen area. He pulled a chicken breast from one of the warmers, jumped back over the counter and proceeded to eat it while he waited for his food, Chief Palmer said. When his order arrived, he placed the stolen chicken inside the food box and then left the establishment with two other individuals. He was apprehended in Statesboro with both the Statesboro Police Department and Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office assisting. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office transported him back to Waynesboro where he was charged and booked.

No money was stolen during the crime nor did Carter use a weapon, although he did have a handgun in his waistband.
