Annual fireworks extravaganza is a success

DIANA ROYAL

It wouldn’t be a fireworks show in Waynesboro without some rain, but the sporadic showers and heavy thunderstorm cleared just in time for Mad Anthony’s Big Boom. The event, sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority, drew one of the largest crowds to date, despite the torrential downpour that soaked the city most of the day. “We had a great turnout and dodged the rainstorms together, like we seem to do every year,” Don Lively, DDA director said with a laugh following the show. “Our community is always so supportive, and they didn’t let us down this year. We had dance contests and a lot of great food and fun. I’ll say this was one of the best ever. And we thank everyone who donated funds to make the show possible.” Mad Anthony’s Big Boom is funded by individuals and businesses from the local community, who this year alone contributed $7,025 – just over a thousand dollars shy of the $8,800 goal. Lively said it’s never too late to contribute and that donations for next year are welcome now. Mail donations to City of Waynesboro/DDA c/o Don Lively, 628 Myrick St., Waynesboro, GA 30830.
