Burke County man killed in car crash Sunday

Another crash this week has marked the 10th traffic fatality in Burke County.

On Sunday evening at 8:05, Burke County Sheriff ’s Office and Burke County EMA personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Spread Oak Road. According to a release issued by the BCSO, 54-year-old Marshall Edward Brickey was traveling east on the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to go into a ditch and overturn.

Brickey was transported to Augusta University Medical Center where he later died from the injuries sustained in the accident.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident. A report was not available at press time.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported just over 600 traffic fatalities for the state in 2016. Last year, that number more than doubled as approximately 1,550 crash-related deaths were recorded. Of those, a dozen happened here in Burke County.
