Alfred Fonda Barefield

Funeral services for Alfred F. Barefield, age 76, who died Saturday were held Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Ga. with the Rev. Harry Coursey and Rev. Tom Oliver officiating. Visitation in the church fellowship hall followed the service.

Mr. Barefield was a native and lifelong resident of Waynesboro. He served in the Ga. National Guard and was a retired supervisor with International Paper Co. Al was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, and his place at the lake. He was an extremely devoted father and a loving husband for 47 years and was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in showing his children what to do and what "not" to do, often by example. Al loved to dance, he loved children, and to piddle in his shop making bird houses and wind chimes.

He loved his old cars. Al had a generous heart and would always be there for anyone that needed him. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He could usually be found with a smile on his face and his laugh was contagious. He loved to make others smile and continued to do so until the very end. He will be gravely missed. Our minds may fail us but the heart never forgets.

The family would like to thank the sweet care-givers who loved Al, cared for him, and became part of our family. We also want to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Regency Hospice for their care, attention, and love.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Sammons Barefield, one son, Chris Barefield (Jackie), one daughter, Courtney Allison Moody (Chad), two brothers, Jimmie Barefield and Johnny Barefield, two sisters, Joyce Hayes and Elizabeth Gossett, and three grandchildren, Makayla Barefield, Allison Moody and Thomas Moody, all of Waynesboro. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Barefield and a sister, Gladys Barefield Stone.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 420, Waynesboro, Ga. 30830 or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 No. Michigan Avenue Fl 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601.
