BCSO deputy arrested for DUI

A Burke County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested around 2 a.m. Monday and charged with DUI following a single vehicle crash on Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta.

Later that morning the deputy, Sgt. Vonshay Felton, submitted his resignation to the department, while offering apologies to the sheriff, his coworkers and the local community.

Sgt. Felton, who was wellknown and well-liked throughout the county, had an excellent work history, according to Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard. “However, there are some incidents that even years of great work cannot negate,” he said, adding that the department’s policy calls for the termination of any deputy found guilty of driving under the influence.

The arrest will be turned over to the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council for investigation.
