Charges are pending against a Burke County man after he ran over a woman in the KJ Supermarket parking lot Saturday.

Veronica Ramirez Sanchez, 45, a resident of Winter Road in Burke County, was walking in front of the store and about to enter the building when Alan Arvid Strobeen, 70, struck the victim and rolled over her with a 2002 Dodge pickup.

The driver told officers he never saw the victim and only became aware of a problem when he heard a "thud" and felt the vehicle run over something.

The Waynesboro Police Department responded to the incident at about 3:05 p.m. Saturday and found the victim lying on the ground next to the truck. The accident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

The GSP accident report states that the driver appeared to be "under the influence of medications/drugs/alcohol" and that charges are pending based on further results.

Sanchez was transported by the Burke County EMA to Augusta Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries, which included at least one broken leg.
