The Lady Spartans (1-1) of Edmund Burke Academy faced the Lady Eagles of Brentwood School Monday Nov. 20, and came up short, giving them their first loss of the season.

After a close first quarter, the Brentwood Lady Eagles, defending AA State Champions, showed their dominance, leading them to a 42-25 victory. Senior Hannah Powell led the team in both offense and defense, having 10 rebounds and 10 points. Senior Caroline Mcteer also scored 4 points for the Lady Spartans, and junior Marley Knight snagged 5 defensive rebounds.

“We just weren’t ready to play,” said head coach Larry Keller. “We have to play more a little more consistently as a team, especially when playing teams like Brentwood. As for our next game, we will have to play as a team, rather than individuals. Augusta Christian is a good team, who we will have to play well against.”

The Lady Spartans will participate in the Augusta Prep Garden City Classic Tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 2. They play Augusta Christian Thursday, Nov. 30, and tip-off is at 8:30 p.m.
