Lady Spartans 0-2 in region play

The Edmund Burke Academy Lady Spartans softball team began region play on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and fell 11-0 to the Pinewood Lady Patriots. They also played the Lady Crusaders of Trinity Christian School for their next region matchup and were again defeated, 10-0.

Against Pinewood, eighth-grader Nora Kate Williams led the Lady Spar- tans in pitching with threex strikeouts. Senior Sydney Quick led in offense, going 3-3 from the plate. Junior Rylee Cook, senior Makayla Barefield and sophomore Claudia Post also each had one hit.

In the game against Trinity, Williams was again the leading pitcher. She threw one strikeout. The Lady Spartans struggled offensively against the Lady Crusaders and only managed three hits the entire game. Quick was again the leading offensive player, going 2-2 from the plate, and was followed by Post who had one hit.

Head coach Larry Keller said the Lady Spartans had a number of errors in both games and that they have a lot of cleaning up to do if they are going to be able to compete.

The game against Bulloch Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 12, was cancelled due to inclement weather.
