Track season over for Bears

The Burke County Bears boys track team placed 21st overall at the state meet last weekend in Rome.

Damari Kelly finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet and 8 inches; Dy’mon Green placed fifth in high jump with a height of 6’4”; and Green, Kelly, Marcello Snelling and Montavian Taylor placed sixth in the 4x100 with a time of 43.67 seconds.

For the girls, Qua’Neshia Hamilton was just out of the top eight, jump placing ninth in the long jump at 16’8 ΒΌ.”

Coach Purvis Dukes said he was very pleased with the students’ efforts.

“Their performances were the best that they have done all season,” he said. “It is a very good accomplishment to make it to the state track meet and once there you realize that you are one of the top sixteen performers in the state at the 4A level.”
