Bold brushstrokes and bits of glass will be the main attractions in downtown Waynesboro on Sunday. Look for them both at Schweitzer Art Glass Studio, where owner Robin Schweitzer will host Art in the ‘Boro. The show will feature paintings and illustrations by Cole Smith and mosaics by Carol Ann Ayer, both of Augusta. Smith’s work has been popular at past shows, where his bright canvases portraying colorful roosters and cheerful images have been in high demand. This will also be a return trip for Ayer, who shared her mosaic masterpieces at one of Schweitzer’s shows in 2015. From musical instruments to antlers, she takes ordinary objects and makes them shine with her meticulous mosaic designs. Schweitzer is thrilled to have both popular artists back for a show together and encourages community members to drop in for the afternoon show. Their common thread is that their work brings a smile to the face, she says. “Carol is a fun mosaic artist,” Schweitzer said, noting how her close attention to detail sets her work apart. “Cole’s themes are just whimsical fun and he uses fabulous colors.” Both artists will display a number of their works at the show, which is free and open to the community. Many of the pieces will be available for purchase. So guests don’t go hungry while they browse, the Doug’s Doggs hotdog stand will be parked just outside the studio.
