Man fleeing police causes accident

Crash site at the intersection of Liberty Street and the Burke Veterans Parkway Crash site at the intersection of Liberty Street and the Burke Veterans Parkway Waynesboro police resorted to a foot chase in order to apprehend a driver who caused a crash at the intersection of Liberty Street and the Burke Veterans Parkway on April 15.

At about 2:30 Saturday afternoon, Octavious Jackson, 29, of Augusta was attempting to outrun the police after a domestic incident at a residence in the area of Waters Street and Fuller Street in Waynesboro.

Driving a blue Ford Fusion, Jackson ran the red light at the intersection, crashing into a van driven by Christy Phillips of Waynesboro. Phillips, her daughter and Jackson were all transported by the Burke County EMA to Augusta University Hospital for treatment.

Jackson faces a number of charges related to the incident, including failure to stop at a stop sign, not using a seat belt, failure to obey traffic control devices and failure to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle. The Georgia State Patrol report stated that Jackson admitted causing the accident.
