Shop, Shuck and Shag

More open house events coming to downtown
By Diana Royal

The community spoke and downtown officials listened.

Following the huge success of Downtown Open House over the holidays, businesses and patrons alike expressed how they want to see similar events held more frequently.

According to Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director Don Lively, the DDA plans to do just that.

To kick off Masters week, the DDA will host Shop, Shuck and Shag on Saturday, April 1. Liberty Street will be shut down around 3 p.m. and shoppers have until 10 p.m. to search for the best bargains.

Starting at 5, DDA members will hold an oyster roast and buckets will be available for purchase. There will be live music throughout the evening as well.

“This is really good for our downtown,” Lively said, adding that the DDA plans to hold quarterly open house-type events. “Our downtown is thriving and this is one way to help keep that momentum going.”
