Spartans 2-2 in region

Coach Cofield gives the team a pep talk during a timeout. Coach Cofield gives the team a pep talk during a timeout. The Edmund Burke Academy Spartans played the Gators of Bulloch Academy on Jan. 17, hoping to pick up another region win, but fell to the Gators with a score of 57-25.

“We were taking great shots; they just didn’t fall,” said Head Coach Chance Cofield. “We allowed the opponent to outscore us early so we couldn’t catch up.”

The leading offensive player was freshman Jonathon Duffie with 6 points, followed by freshman Tripp Parker with 4. Sophomore Jaylon Glisson led the team defensively pulling down 4 strong rebounds.

On Jan. 20, the Spartans competed in another region matchup against the Patriots of Pinewood Christian Academy. The Spartans came out with fire and defeated the Patriots in overtime with a score of 59-58. Leading the team on offense was junior Luke Mead with 17 points followed by Parker with 16. Leading rebounder was senior Nathan Mulling, who pulled down 8, followed by sophomore Collier Smith with 7.

We had a lot of guys step up and contribute to the win,” Coach Cofield said. “Tripp Parker had a very big night and helped us out on offense and defense.”

The Spartans played the Eagles of DEA on Monday but were outscored 66-56. Full stats were not available at press time.

The Spartans play Fredrica at home Friday, Jan. 27, and Trinity on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Dublin. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
