A violent collision in downtown Waynesboro sent two victims to an Augusta hospital Friday afternoon, April 15.

According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, a 2003 Pontiac GrandAm driven by Karisma Yontrea Williams of Waynesboro was travelling east on Eighth Street when the driver failed to yield at a stop sign at Liberty Street.

The Pontiac struck a 2004 Mitsubishi being driven by Tammy Leverne Scott of Millen. According to the report, Scott was northbound on Liberty Street at the time, and her vehicle rotated clockwise and travelled about 29 feet onto Eighth Street before striking a 2015 GMC pickup driven by Rusty Hamner of Waynesboro. Hamner was stopped at the stop sign when he was hit. Damage to his vehicle was slight and he was not injured.

Units from the Burke County Emergency Management Agency responded to the accident along with the Waynesboro Police Department.
